Mathematical
Activities with DERIVE
E. Graham, J. S. Berry, A. J. P. Watkins (eds)
These
mathematical activities using DERIVE,
were selected to illustrate the variety of ways in which DERIVE can be
used to enhance the teaching and learning of mathematics. The activities
contain many ideas that could easily be applied in different areas of
mathematics, and which will act as a stimulus for developing your own
tasks.
They are pitched at a variety of levels, from secondary school, through college
to university. Several activities contain ideas that can be used at different
levels. For example, the fractals section contains work on transformations
that could be used with some school students, while some of the later activities
are only suitable for undergraduates.
Each chapter includes a Rationale, a Description of the Activities, Comments
on the Use of the Activities, to supplement the activities themselves. This
allows readers to identify the key aspects of each activity and the advantages
associated with its use, as well as any problems that might be experienced.
Free utility files to support the activities are available from the authors.
